Musical Interests

We are very interested in all sorts of music: from rock to classical, from folk to new age. Grey is relearning the piano and picking up the guitar while Kate is trying to sing and bang on the piano. Here we profile some of our favorite artists and composers.

If I had to pick a "favorite" artist, it would like be Joe Satriani. The beautiful melodies executed with technical flair is just great. In a similar vein, Adrian Legg produces transcendent music with a style all his own. These gents have been my inspiration, as can be seen in my choice of instruments. Other guitarists on my watch list include Billy McLaughlin, Eric Johnson, Chris Duarte, Leo Kotke, Jerry Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Chet Atkins.

More general rock-n-rollers of note include Rush, Jethro Tull, ELP, Pink Floyd, Styx, Led Zepplin, Pat Benetar, Pat Travers, Santana, and on down the line.

On the classical front, the three "big" masters are, of course, J.S. Back, W. A. Mozart and L.V. Beethoven. Need I say more? Around these you can add G. F. Handle, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Debusy and Holst.

Toward the folksy end of the spectrum, we listen to Bela Flek, John Denver, Harry Chapin, Bob Dilan, and Joe Cocker.

The new-age-ish stuff falls mostly on Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and some Yanni. We also listen to some nice collections from things like "Music from the Heart of Space." Very relaxing stuff usually.

There are a number of clubs, music halls and larger venues around town. These are some that we check on a regular basis:

The Soiled Dove
Red Rocks
The Gothic Theatre
Fiddler's Green
The Fox Theater
Pepsi Center

Here's where I get most of my music script:
